Cricket Players Carrying Swords

The above image showing ICL players carrying swords may appear normal to our eyes, or may be not. After all this is Cricket, a sport, and what has it got to do with 'swords'?

Well, if we think about it, this may be very 'regular' occurrence. Symbols of violence are so much ingrained into modern professional sports that most of the time we don't even notice. But gradually such symbols do influence our heart and soul. 

My humble request to the ICL organizers - please shun all symbols of violence and wars from your logos, dresses or commercials and let us make modern professional sports completely non-violent... 

RIP Ankit Keshri, Another Cricketer Lost

It is very sad to know that Ankit, a promising young Cricketer, lost his life... The tragic accident happened on field when he collided with another player. This news has once again raised a question - how safe is Cricket? Or how safe are our competitive professional sports?

What happened to Ankit could happen to any other player on the field. When fielders are running to catch a ball, often so fast and put their entire effort to stop the ball from going out of the fences, it is difficult for them to remain in complete control. And fielders normally do not wear any safety gear!

Unless sports are made truly safe, it is difficult to believe that players are safe. It happens with Ankit today and it can happen with someone else tomorrow. We need to think and revise the rules of the game so as not to put so much pressure on the players... 

We also need to think if it is alright to let young boys and girls give up studies and go work hard in the sports ground with aim to become professional players... When they are no longer young, sports desert them and they are vulnerable and unprepared. This fact makes sports a very poor career choice... But do we think about it?
